Our Police Department is interested in setting up a similar program in our area. Can you help us?
We would love to, but our resources to do so are limited. The main reason for our success these past 20 years is due to the support we have received from the public, and businesses in our community.
Our organization is not tied to any one police department directly. Our core members are all volunteer police officers and spouses from a number of police departments in our area of service.
Once our group decided to move forward with our program, the first thing we done was to incorporate and elect officers. Then we submitted the paperwork with the IRS to obtain status as a non profit organization. Several local attorneys dontated their services to help us in this process.
Then we contacted the public by going to service group meetings such as the Elks, American Legion, Rotary Club to name a few to explain what we were going to do and asked for their support.
We followed this up with press releases to the local media.
We started our program several weeks before Christmas and because of the overwhelming support we received, we were able to obtain toys for over 250 children. This year, we expect to provide toys for over 1000 children during Christmas.
